This study was prompted by community interest in the reasons behind the patterning that is visible from vessels and from the air on sandy seafloors in shallow waters of what we refer to as ‘Ipipiri Platform’ and which comprises a group of islands (‘Ipipiri’ to local Māori) in eastern Bay of Islands.
