Matarau School – Te Moana Enviro Day

Matarau school is a school for c.300 pupils in years 1-8, in Te Kamo, Whangārei. This year they celebrated their Enviro Day 2024 on 12 March as part of Sea Week.

The whole school took part in a wide range of Te Moana-themed activities, including CoastCare, Surf Lifesaving, Litter Traps, Art, and Marine Protected Areas. Tamariki were supported by NRC CoastCare and Enviroschools staff, as well as teachers, whanau and volunteers.

Students were guided throughout the day by the principles of Kaitiaki (Leadership), Whakawhanaungatanga (Whanau/peers – positive relationships), Manaakitanga (respect) and Atawhai (working together).

Families were welcome too and brought kai to share. The event was a wonderful opportunity for learning and growing, for whanau to spend time with teachers and for everyone to make deeper connections with the Te Moana and their school environment.
