Members of our Land Management team were excited to play a part in the 2023 Young Farmer of the Year regional final held in late April.

It is the first time Northland Regional Council has been directly involved hosting a competition module. The Land Team was tasked with putting together a short educational quiz with a variety of questions mostly based on waterway rules and regulations.

Contestants were also quizzed on choosing the correct plant species when planting around waterways and best practice for stock exclusion.

While the quiz may have been on the challenging side, Land Management Adviser Holly Chappell said most of the contestants gave it a “good crack” and scored pretty well overall. The team had a great day and hope to be part of the 2024 event.

Well done to regional winner Lisa Kendall who battled it out in Timaru at the finals.
