Joint projects that address climate change
We’re part of several groups and committees, and have led the development of strategies and plans, that deal with various aspects of climate change in Northland.

NRC is a member of this governance group, that includes councillors and hapū/iwi representatives from across the region.

Climate Adaptation Te Taitokerau
NRC coordinates this collaborative inter-council group that focuses on climate change adaptation. The group includes staff from each of the four Northland councils, hapū and agency representatives. It has developed the Te Taitokerau Climate Adaptation Strategy, which lays out a path toward effective and aligned adaptation in the region.

Northland Walking and Cycling Strategy
In 2018, we coordinated the development of a regional walking and cycling strategy. It focuses on developing and encouraging walking and cycling in Northland, as well as objectives around providing a land transport system that reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
This document was developed by the regional council in close collaboration with the district councils, Department of Conservation, Walking Access Commission and NZ Transport Agency.

Tsunami evacuation and Community Response Plans
We have mapped tsunami evacuation zones around Northland and helped 45 communities to develop Community Response Plans, which provide localised emergency procedures and advice on being prepared.
