Diving and dive flags

You must fly a dive flag if you are:

  • Diving from a vessel or diving unaccompanied from the shore.
  • In an area where there may be passing vessels.

You must stay within 200m of a clearly displayed flag which may be:

  • On a vessel – 600mm x 600mm.
  • On a buoy or float attached to diver with a dive flag – 200mm x 200mm.

If you are approaching a vessel flying a dive flag, slow down to below 5 knots and look out for bubbles indicating a diver below.

Remember to fly your flag high so it can be seen!

Diver in water with orange float and blue and white dive flag.
