Biosecurity

Protect our lakes and rivers from invasive freshwater clam

The invasive freshwater clam poses a serious threat to Northland’s rivers, lakes, infrastructure, and native biodiversity.

To help stop the spread and protect our lakes and rivers, always CHECK, CLEAN, DRY any watercraft or gear that comes into contact with the water, between every waterway, every time!

If you’re visiting Lake Taharoa this summer, we’re asking you to complete a self-certification before using the lake. This confirms you have followed the correct biosecurity protocol (Check, Clean, Dry) to ensure your watercraft and gear are free from freshwater pests.

A biosecurity checkpoint is in place at Kai Iwi Lakes this summer to ensure lake users have complete the self-certification.
