Northland Regional Council offers funding, training and other resources to support hapū, iwi and other eligible tāngata whenua entities across Te Taitokerau with kaupapa Māori-led environmental monitoring and the development or updating of environmental management plans (kaitiaki plans).

These initiatives help back the mātauranga, tikanga and leadership of tangata whenua to care for and protect their whenua, wai and taiao - now and into the future. 

Climate Resilient Communities Fund

Kia Manawaroa Te Taitokerau is about building connected, resilient communities across the region by supporting locally led projects that prepare for climate change, reduce risk, and strengthen our response to future challenges.

Tāngata Whenua and Community Catchment Fund

Northland Regional Council’s Tāngata Whenua and Community Catchment Fund supports tangata whenua and catchment groups with projects that improve the quality of freshwater in Te Taitokerau.

Tū i te ora Scholarship

Council’s Tū i te Ora Scholarship honours and supports tauira who are pursuing study, research, or training connected to the council’s environmental and regulatory mahi. This scholarship provides a foundation for future environmental leaders and champions, contributing to the council’s vision:

“Tiakina te taiao, tuia te here tangata - Nurture the environment, weave the people together.”
