Te Oneroa-a-Tōhe | Ninety Mile Beach
Te Oneroa-a-Tōhe/Ninety Mile Beach is a special and iconic place, both used and treasured by many. The beach is of extreme importance to the five iwi of Te Hiku o Te Ika (the Far North – the tail of the fish).
To help manage this precious taonga for current and future generations, Te Oneroa-a-Tōhe Board was created.
The Board is a co-governance partnership for the benefit of the community. Its purpose is to work collectively and collaboratively to provide governance and direction to protect and enhance environmental, economic, social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing within Te Oneroa-a-Tōhe management area now and in the future.
The parties to the partnership (defined through settlement legislation) are:
- Ngāti Kuri
- Te Aupōuri
- Te Rarawa
- NgāiTakoto
- Northland Regional Council
- Far North District Council.
The board has developed a plan for managing the beach, and you can read that plan by visiting the Te Oneroa-a-Tōhē website: www.teoneroa-a-tohe.nz
