Key points 2010-2011

Twenty-four freshwater and 61 coastal popular swimming sites were monitored through the programme from November 2010 to March 2011.

· 22 coastal sites met the safe criteria 100 percent of the time.

· 21 met the safe criteria on all but one occasion.

· 16 met the safe criteria on all but two occasions.

· Four freshwater sites met the safe criteria 100 percent of the time.

· Two met the safe criteria on all but one occasion.

· Nine sites met the safe criteria on all but two occasions.

· 17 sites were investigated to find the source of faecal contamination.
