The Northland Regional Council has funds available for schools to undertake environmental projects in their local area. Funding will be provided for projects and initiatives that have positive environmental outcomes.
Additional funding is available for Pest Control projects. Projects can be in the school grounds or out in the local community.
What is the Environmental Leaders Fund?
The Environmental Leaders Fund (ELF) aims to support Northland schools and students to increase their environmental knowledge, passion and practice. School projects or initiatives that are practical, hands-on, and have a positive impact on Northland's environment will be considered.
How do I apply for funding?
All Northland schools will be emailed instructions when applications open on Monday, 20 May 2019.
Need help with the online form?
Applications will close on Sunday, 23 June 2019.

Do all applications receive funding?
As funding is restricted, we cannot guarantee all applications will be successful.
What kind of project is more likely to succeed?
There are a wide range of projects that have received funding in the past. Applications that relate to the regional council core business of biodiversity, pest control and water quality have a greater chance of success.
The following projects are unlikely to be successful: recycling projects, murals/artwork and edible gardens.
Why is there additional funding for Pest Control projects?
We all have a part to play in reducing the impact of pest animals, weeds and aquatic invaders. Northland Regional Council has allocated specific funds for schools to be involved in pest management.
Are the projects limited to 'within the school gates'?
No, we encourage you to work with community groups in your local area.
How do I make an application?
Applications can be made online from Monday, 20 May 2019 and close at 5pm, Sunday, 23 June 2019. Applications for any amount up to a maximum of $2,000 per project will be considered.
You may apply for funding for more than one project, but each project must be submitted on a separate form.
Go to our online application form (you will need to login or register for an account).
What happens after I make an application?
Applicants will be advised of funding decisions in July. Funding will be processed on receipt of an official invoice, which must be from the school awarded the funding.
We will contact you to follow up on how your project is progressing, and we do require a brief update from all successful projects by the end of the school year.
