Environmental Leaders Fund
The Northland Regional Council has funds available for schools to undertake environmental projects in their school grounds or out in the local community. Funding will be provided for projects and initiatives that have positive environmental outcomes.
What is the Environmental Leaders Fund?
The Environmental Leaders Fund (ELF) aims to support Northland schools and early childhood centres, students and children to increase their environmental knowledge, passion and practice. School projects or initiatives that are practical, hands-on, and have a positive impact on Northland's environment will be considered.
How do I apply for funding?
All Northland schools will be emailed instructions when applications open in 2023.
What you'll need to apply
When completing the application form, you'll need to have:
- details of your project
- quote/s and supporting information
Do all applications receive funding?
As funding is restricted, we cannot guarantee all applications will be successful.
What kind of project is more likely to succeed?
There are a wide range of projects that have received funding in the past. Applications that relate to regional council core business of biodiversity, pest control and water quality, and consider te ao Māori, have a greater chance of success.
The following projects are unlikely to be successful: recycling projects, murals/artwork and edible gardens.
Schools who are wanting to apply for animal pest control funding can use the trapping hardware price list to see what traps are available. These items can then be selected on the online application from. If you need advice on selecting traps, email Bevan, one of our Biosecurity Officers at: [email protected]
Are the projects limited to 'within the school gates'?
No, we encourage you to work with community groups in your local area.
How do I make an application?
Applications for 2022 funding have closed.
All Northland schools will be emailed instructions on how to apply when applications open in 2023.
What happens after I make an application?
