Water resilience (Te Wai)
Water resilience (Te Wai) focuses on proactively addressing the challenges posed by increasing water scarcity in a changing climate, by taking practical steps to enhance water resilience.
Rainwater harvesting and storage, water conservation and sustainable management of freshwater resources, along with protection and improvement of water quality in lakes, streams and wetlands all contribute to water resilience in Te Taitokerau.
With increasing climate impacts such as drought, storms resulting in erosion and sedimentation and rising sea levels impacting coastal aquifers, we support innovative projects that enable communities to have access to a reliable supply of freshwater.

Tanks A Lot
The Tanks A Lot project by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hine has helped Ngāti Hine marae lift their rainwater storage and water resilience. Installation of larger tanks at marae as hubs to share water, alongside smaller water storage units that can transport water to whānau most in need, this project efficiently makes the most of every bit of water capacity possible.
