Cyclone recovery funding for trees in rivers
Our council has allocated $500,000 of funding for removing trees from rivers, to help Te Taitokerau recover from the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle.
How to apply
Fill in the form to apply – we’ll be in touch to let you know if you qualify and, if so, what happens next.
Priority will be given to areas/situations where there is the highest risk of blockage and other impacts (risk to human life, infrastructure, flood risk etc).
What’s the problem?
Trees in rivers can cause blockages, flooding, and other impacts.
It’s not uncommon, and normally the owner of the land from which the tree came is responsible for dealing with it.
After Cyclone Gabrielle, the scale of the issue is considered to be beyond the ability of landowners to complete the clean-up works through their own resources.
We want to help get these trees removed, getting as much of the clearing done as possible before winter.
