Cyclone Gabrielle relief fund for fencing repair
The Land Management team is now accepting applications of financial assistance for the repair and replacement of riparian fences damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle.
Allocation of the $300,000 fund will be given to Northland landowners who require a high level of support and every application will be considered on a case by case basis.
If your funding application is successful, the grant amount will be paid in two instalments – 50% of set council per/m rates will be paid after the grant is approved, with the final instalment paid upon council receiving evidence of completed works.
Please note projects that only require repairs (i.e. some posts and wires still serviceable) will only be eligible for initial upfront payment. In situations where the damaged fence did not meet minimum setback standards required by the RMA Stock Exclusion Standards (e.g. minimum of a 3m riparian buffer), the fund will only support repair work where the new fence will achieve or surpass these standards.
When applying for funding, you will need to provide a minimum of three photos (maximum of six) that clearly show where the damaged fence is/was, where any new fence will be constructed (if different) – (this can be achieved by using pig tail standards or similar to identify the preferred fence line), and evidence that the fence meets minimum 3m setback distance as per regulations. Find out more about the setback distance at: www.nrc.govt.nz/stockexclusion
Work not eligible for funding:
- Fencing repairs in the of the Coastal Marine Area (CMA) are not funded.
- Retrospective applications will not be accepted.
- Properties located in the area administered by the Kaipara Moana Remediation Programme are not eligible for riparian fencing through the cyclone Gabrielle riparian fencing fund.
