Natural Hazards Engineer

The role

The Natural Hazards Engineer role is part of the Rivers and Natural Hazards Team that provides analysis of river and coastal hazards for Northland.  This position will be responsible for assessment of flood risk, engineering design, analysis of flood control schemes and river and coastal flood hazard assessments.    

The position is based in the sub-tropical city of Whangārei, about two hours’ drive north of Auckland. 

What you will bring

You will ideally have an appropriate degree in engineering, water resources, geohazards or an equivalent qualification and have knowledge and experience working hydraulic modelling software (HEC RAS, Infoworks, DHI Mike and WaterRIDE, GIS (ESRI ArcMAP), Hilltop and other relevant software.  

You will have at least 10 years’ experience in a similar role and an in-depth understanding in one or more of the following field(s); hydraulics, hydrology, river-geomorphology, flood control works, natural hazards investigation and analysis. You will be skilled in project and contract management and have the ability to build effective relationships and deliver quality outcomes under pressure.
