We have a newly created role for a Kaiwhakahaere, Hononga Māori | Māori Relationships Manager, based in Whangārei. The primary drivers of this position are to lead our Māori Relationships team to progress relationship-building and engagement between our council and tangata whenua, and to provide advice to develop, promote and implement Te Ao Māori growth and understanding within our organisation.
As Kaiwhakahaere, Hononga Māori, you will lead work across the organisation and with Māori communities to advance Māori engagement and partnership outcomes, while ensuring alignment with policy and planning requirements, legislative requirements, and Treaty settlements. You will collaborate with Māori communities to develop and deliver work-programmes that enhance Māori capability and capacity to participate in council processes and decision-making.

Ideally we are seeking a professional firmly grounded te reo Māori me ona tikanga, with knowledge of working with iwi and hapū in a Te Tai Tokerau setting. With experience working at a senior level in Māori engagement, you will have ability to develop strategic partnerships with important stakeholders, and provide advice and guidance to councillors and colleagues on engagement with Māori communities. Excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills are essential, along with self-motivation and ability to meet deadlines.
