The Economic Policy Advisor is part of the Economic Development Team in the Strategy, Governance and Engagement Department. This close-knit team provides economic analysis, policy development and provides economic information, interpretation and advice on sustainable economic development and environmental management in Northland to inform council decision making.
The purpose of the role is to contribute to the work of the team on a range of tasks including managing economic development projects led or funded by council, analysing and reporting on economic development and environmental management issues as well as developing and progressing economic policy initiatives in collaboration with our stakeholders.
The position is based in the sub-tropical city of Whangārei, about two hours’ drive north of Auckland.
What you will bring
You will have a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (policy development, economics, environmental economics or similar) and have experience in designing and implementing applied economic research and analysing, interpreting and reporting on the information derived including appropriate conclusions and recommendations. You will also have experience in use of economic appraisal tools, such as cost benefit analysis and multi-criteria analysis.
You will be proficient in Microsoft applications especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
You will have at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in a role of relevance; e.g. policy development and evaluation in areas of environmental (natural resource) management and/or regional economic development.
