The feedback period finished on 10 May – thanks to everyone who took the time to have a say.
The Regional Harbourmaster has considered all 169 submissions received and has, in consultation with council, made the following decisions in response to the matters raised in the feedback:
- Do not introduce an access lane due to conflicts with the existing use of the area.
- Do not introduce swimming areas, as the Opononi Community do not want any restrictions on where they are to swim. It is noted that the need to have a protected swimming area is not so essential if there is no access lane.
- Place 5 knot buoys 200 metres from shore at appropriate sites to clearly signal where vessels must slow down to 5 knots prior to next summer season.
