It is a requirement to fly a dive flag if you are:
- diving from a vessel or diving unaccompanied from the shore
- in an area where there may be passing vessels.
You must stay within 200m of a clearly displayed flag which may be:
- On a vessel - 600mm x 600mm
- On a buoy or float attached to diver with a dive flag - 200mm x 200mm.
Remember - fly your flag high so it can be seen
If you are approaching a vessel flying a dive flag, slow down to below 5 knots and look out for bubbles indicating a diver below.
Diving includes snorkelling, spearfishing, freediving and scuba diving.
Vessels must reduce speed to 5 knots within 200m of a vessel showing a dive flag or a dive flag on a buoy or float accompanying a diver.
