Moorings Northland report is as follows:
• NRC records show the mooring is licensed to hold vessels up to 9.8 metres which puts the mooring into the 2-
ton block category, and we have serviced the mooring to this standard. (Moorings with a licensed length up to
7 metres are in the 1-ton block category, 7-12 metres are in the 2-ton category, and 12-18 metres are in the 4-
ton category).
• Your mooring has a 2-ton block. The block passed inspection as the pin being used measured 29.5mm, being
above the NRC minimum threshold of 25mm. The spare pin measured 29.9mm.
• The 5m ground chain measured 36.4-40.7mm and passed inspection, the NRC minimum threshold being 25mm
for a 2-ton system.
• The existing 3.5m x 20mm intermediate chain measured 15.4-16.6mm and failed inspection, the NRC minimum
threshold for this chain being 17mm. We replaced this with 3.5m x 20mm regular link chain and expect that,
due to local sea environs, this chain may need replacing at each 3 yearly service.
• The swivel’s collar and pin showed wear beyond the NRC’s threshold, and it was replaced.
• All new connecting shackles were double-welded closed for added mooring security.
• The 5m x 24mm strop had several broken strands and needed replacing as did the corroded thimble. We
replaced this with 4.5m x 24mm rope, new antichafe hose and 25mm thimble.
• The foam filled buoy passed inspection as did the buoy line.
