2009 EcoHut Challenge Photos

Bamboo walls, a Manchurian Wild Rice thatched roof, and lighting from multi-coloured chunks of glass are just some of the pest plants and recylced treasures used by students to build their Enviroschools EcoHuts.

Three Northland schools took part in the nation-wide Enviroschools EcoHut Challenge, each receiving three category awards.

Kamō Primary School ‘best use of recycled materials’, ‘best human-comfort design’, and ‘best student-led design’.

Tangowahine School took out awards for the ‘best use of natural materials’, ‘best culturally expressive design’, and ‘best habitat for wildlife design’;

Whāngārei Heads School received ‘best solar design’, ‘best reflection of community design’, and ‘best use of locally-sourced materials’; and
