The Freshwater Plan

We need to change our rules about freshwater to meet the Government’s National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 (NPS-FM 2020) direction to significantly improve freshwater health within a generation. It sets national bottom lines for freshwater health that we must meet, such as E. coli levels (an indicator for disease causing organisms) and water clarity (an indicator of sediment).

The draft Freshwater Plan Change is one piece of the puzzle and a blueprint for improving the health of freshwater – rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands and aquifers – in Te Taitokerau Northland.
