Nga Iwi O Te Tai Tokerau - Iwi in Northland

The Northland region boundary stretches from south-east of Mangawhai across to the Kaipara Harbour and all the way up to New Zealand's northernmost tip, Cape Rēinga. Northland has a relatively high proportion of Maori and almost one-third of the region's population is Maori compared to just 15% at the national level. Over 50,000 Maori live in Northland, representing 7.5% of the total Maori population.

Northland – Te Tai Tokerau – has nine iwi whose tribal boundaries fall either partially or entirely within the region; Te Aupouri, Ngati Kuri, Ngati Kahu, Te Rarawa, Ngai Takoto, Ngati Kahu/Ngapuhi ki Whangaroa, Ngapuhi, Ngatiwai and Ngati Whatua.
