Application guidelines

How to apply

You must complete the online application form for every vacancy you apply for.  If you apply for more than one position, remember to complete the online application form for each position.

Covering letter

If you wish to include a covering letter, please be brief, clear and specific.  Tell us what you know and what you can do - don't leave us to guess!

Remember to include the name of the position for which you are applying - like 'Land Management Officer'.

Eligibility

To be considered for a job vacancy with us, you must hold (or be eligible to hold) New Zealand citizenship, permanent resident status or a work permit.

Curriculum vitae

Pointers about our preferences for a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume:

  • we prefer a brief CV - four pages or so;
  • single-sided documents are preferred;
  • use a staple to bind your CV as we need to photocopy; and
  • if you send a hard copy, please do not send any original documents.

You should include the following items in your CV. This will enable us to accurately assess your suitability for the position:

Personal Details
Your name, address and contact telephone numbers, including mobile and email.

Relevant experience
A summary of your relevant experience that proves you have the skills to do the job for which you are applying. Before you write this section, read the person specification thoroughly. Identify the key competencies and attributes you will need for the position, such as customer service experience, supervisory skills or communication skills.  Applications are short-listed based on competencies.

Employment history
List your employment history, starting with your most recent employment. State the name of the position, then the name of the employer and a brief description of your role and responsibilities.

Qualifications
List your qualifications and any educational programmes in which you are currently involved. Do not include copies of qualifications and certificates. Bring these with you if you are interviewed. Please include the date you received your qualification and the educational institution you attended.

Interests and achievements
Include any unpaid work experience, interests or hobbies that show you have the ability to do the job for which you are applying.

References and referees
Written references are not required.  These may be asked for if you are interviewed for the position.  Include referees who can be contacted by telephone or email.  Make sure that your referees know you have applied for this position and may be contacted.

Late applications

Please ensure your application is submitted to us by the closing date, as late applications may not be accepted.

After you apply

Owing to the time involved in acknowledging applications, you may not hear from us straight away.  Within a week of the application closing date, we will begin assessing applications and short-listing potential candidates for interview.

All applicants will be notified the outcome of their application as soon as possible.
