There are increasing demands on our region’s water supply. Our freshwater is sought after by many sectors in our community – hydro-electricity generators, farmers, households, recreation, industry and tourism. It’s not easy to balance these differing values and needs.
This Plan covers the effects of land use activities on water and soil in Northland. The Plan identifies the significant water and soil issues faced by Northlanders and seeks to address these through the policies and rules. The Plan also proactively promotes a programme of environmental education, advocacy, information provision and advice.
Our Regional Water and Soil Plan contains rules about different types of activities in the region. Anything not permitted by our Plan requires resource consent. For example, a consent allows you to discharge onto land.
