Alerts to your smartphone
To receive alerts from the Northland CDEM Group and a growing number of official agencies, download the free Hazard App from Google Play (for Android phones) or the Apple iTunes/App Stores (for iPhones).
The text-based OPTN system for alerts is no longer being used by the Northland CDEM Group (as of April 2016). If you had previously signed up to OPTN, you will need to download the Hazard app to continue receiving alerts.
The Hazard app allows you to choose to monitor your current location and up to five other locations, and the types of alerts you wish to receive for each. Storms/flooding, earthquakes, tsunami and rural fires are among the key hazards for Northlanders. Alerts for biosecurity responses, epidemics and volcanic eruptions can also be selected.
It also includes general advice on what to do before, during and after different types of disasters, and checklists for survival items, 'getaway kits' and household emergency plans.
If you find the Hazard app valuable, please use the 'share this app' option within the app to ensure your family, friends, neighbours and workmates are also informed.
