Civil Defence in Northland
The Civil Defence Emergency Management Act sets out how civil defence should be managed around New Zealand.
In Northland, we have a Northland Region Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group that manages activities. The Northland Regional Council and the region’s three District Councils, along with agencies such as the police and fire service, are all members of this group.
The CDEM Group works together to:
- reduce the potential effects of hazards;
- promote community and council readiness (preparedness) to respond to emergencies; and
- help the community to recover after an event.
Northland Civil Defence Emergency Plan
The Northland Region CDEM Group has prepared a plan that provides the context and strategic direction for civil defence emergency management in the Northland region.
