Matariki is the Māori name for the group of stars also known as the Pleiades star cluster or The Seven Sisters. The name also refers to the traditional Māori New Year.

Māori is a language for all New Zealanders – a treasure unique to our country, and something in which we can all take great pride. Since 1975, New Zealanders have been celebrating Māori Language Week – speaking it ourselves or showing our support to speakers of te reo Māori.
