Plan Change 1 - Marsden Point Air Quality Strategy

Purpose of the change

The Regional Air Quality Plan for Northland now includes changes made as a result of Plan Change 1 (Marsden Point Air Quality Strategy).

As a result of the Plan Change, a number of policies and methods are being included/altered in the Air Quality Plan for discharges in and around the Marsden Point Airshed (refer: Marsden Point Airshed Map).

The main changes include:

  • a definition of reverse sensitivity,
  • appointing a Liaison Group,
  • requiring applications for air discharge permits to provide an Assessment of Environmental Effects (including cumulative, synergistic and interactive effects where technically practicable),
  • adopting a three-tiered approach for assessing air discharges to air from industry and;
  • recommending prior agreement with the Regional Council on the type of computer dispersion modelling used (including model type and input data).

Please refer to the Regional Air Quality Plan for Northalnd for a full list of requirements which can be viewed on our website (the link to these particular rules is as follows: www.nrc.govt.nz/raqp ).
