What's the plan all about?
In accordance with Subpart 1 of the Public Transport Management Act 2008, the Northland Regional Council’s Regional Transport Committee has prepared a Draft Regional Public Transport Plan which sets the overall direction for the region’s public passenger transport system.
The council is legally required to prepare this plan as it administers and rates for a contracted bus service and administers the Total Mobility Scheme. Council intends to undertake an interim review of the plan after three years and a full review after six years.
The Draft Regional Public Transport Plan:
- Provides strategic direction for the region's public transport for the next six years
- Proposes investigating ways of improving user experience, including public transport information and ticketing options
- Recognises the role of other public transport services in Northland
- Addresses how the regional council will meet the NZ Transport Agency Fare Box Recovery Policy
- Proposes helping those with a disability by maintaining the Total Mobility Scheme and looking for opportunities to expand elsewhere.
It also sets a number of objectives, policies and methods to strategically direct how public transport will develop.
