Why a new RPS?

Northland's current RPS is now 10 years old and some important things have changed:

  • The law has changed
  • There are new national policies and standards that need to be addressed
  • There are iwi management plans that must be considered, as well as legal acknowledgements arising from the Treaty of Waitangi Settlements
  • There are some new regional initiatives, priorities and issues that the current RPS either doesn’t address, or addresses in ways that are no longer relevant.

We are preparing a new RPS because it provides an opportunity to review the current balance between use, development and protection of Northland’s natural and physical resources.
