Every farm should have a summer management plan. This is a must, setting out key decision points concerning stock and feed management and the dates when critical actions should occur. For those without a plan, a free template is available on the DairyNZ website.

The Ministry of Social Development may provide financial support via rural assistance payments to farmers badly affected following a medium-scale or larger adverse climatic event or natural disaster.
MAF have produced a rural assistance payments brochure that outlines details of this recovery measure.
