New airport stop for Onerahi buses
CityLink Whangarei buses travelling the Onerahi route will include a stop at Whangarei Airport from Monday 17 January.
New CityLink stop Whangarei Airport
The bus service is operated by NorthBus and contracted to the Northland Regional Council (NRC).
Sharlene Selkirk, the Regional Council’s Public Passenger Transport Officer, says the NRC has been asking the Whangarei District Council to allow a stop at the airport for a number of years.
“A recent upgrade of the front of the airport terminal has incorporated a shared bus stop/loading zone which means that from 17 January, we’ll be able to include an airport stop on our Onerahi route.”
Ms Selkirk says the bus service timetable will not be altered to specifically meet arriving/departing flights and the bus service does not want to compete directly with taxi and shuttle operators who currently provide services in that regard.
“We’re simply offering an alternative means to get to the airport and back for those who want it.”
Ms Selkirk says as it will only take two or three minutes to stop at the airport, it will not require any changes to the existing CityLink Onerahi timetable, which already has several minutes flexibility built into it.
