Have your say on NRC’s Draft Annual Plan
The public has its chance to comment on the Northland Regional Council’s plans for the next year when a one-month submission period on its Draft Annual Plan begins on Saturday 10 April.
Our Draft Annual Plan 2010-2011 Summary hit Northland letterboxes this week. The 116-page Draft Annual Plan 2010-2011 – approved by Councillors last month – will be publicly notified on Saturday and will be open for public comment until 3pm Monday 10 May.
This year ratepayers are being asked whether they’ll help fund a variety of initiatives, including those designed to grow the region’s economy, improve its water quality and better manage mangroves and sediment.
Depending on the public’s answers, the NRC’s overall general rates revenue (excluding targeted river rates) could increase anywhere from 3.3 to 12.39 percent, which would add anywhere from about $4.70 to $18.15 to the average annual rates bill.
The Draft largely follows a path set out last year when the NRC adopted its Long Term Council Community Plan for 2009-2019.
Distribution of more than 60,000 copies of a 12-page summary of the Draft Plan – complete with a submission form – is already underway to homes throughout the region to coincide with the start of the official consultation period.
Additionally, several hundred copies of the full Draft Plan will also be sent out to interested parties and will also be available from April 10 on CD from all Council offices and the Council’s website www.nrc.govt.nz/draftannualplan
