Month left to use multi-use bus tickets
Passengers with 10-trip concession tickets for Whangarei’s current public bus service are being asked to ensure they use them up before a new bus company starts operating on 01 July.
The new CityLink Whangarei bus service begins operating on 1 July 2008.The Northland Regional Council says most people who purchase multi-trip tickets are regular bus users who would typically use a 10-trip ticket in around a week.
However, with about a month to go before a new operator begins running the service, the Council is keen to ensure passengers have plenty of time to use all 10 trips on tickets purchased from the current operator.
Chris Powell, the Council’s Regional Transport Team Leader, says new operator NZ Bus will offer its own multi-use tickets when it begins operating from Tuesday 01 July.
The new fleet of 10 new low-floor, low emission buses will sport a new, locally-designed look, run to an extended timetable and operate under the name ‘CityLink Whangarei’. But as a new contractor, it will not be honouring outstanding multi-use tickets sold by its predecessor.
Mr Powell says people who want to purchase multi-use tickets for the new service can do so temporarily from the Regional Council’s Water St office from Monday 23 June - the week before the new service starts. Tickets will then be available from the new CityLink bus drivers from 01 July.
