Less than a fortnight remains for Northlanders to have their say on a variety of Northland Regional Council projects proposed for the next year, including one to part-fund a Marsden Pt rail link designation.

An official one-month period for public comment on the Regional Council’s Draft Annual Plan 2007/08 ends at 3pm on Friday 11 May.

As of today (Mon 30 April) the Council had received 31 submissions on the Draft Plan, which generally follows a direction set out in the NRC’s previously approved Long Term Council Community Plan 2006-2016.

However, there are several exceptions, including new proposals to;

  • Pay for a one-third share of a proposed $10M Marsden Pt rail link designation
  • Introduce a new Kaihu River Rate to fund river protection work on the Kaihu River
  • Establish an Infrastructure Development Authority as a mechanism for funding future infrastructure projects
  • Amend its Navigation, Water Transport and Maritime Safety Bylaw Charges 2005.

Copies of the full 124-page Draft Annual Plan and an eight-page summary are available from all Regional Council offices and the Council’s website www.nrc.govt.nz   Copies of the summary have also been distributed to homes throughout Northland.

Submissions on the Draft Annual Plan will be considered by Councillors in Whangarei in late May.
