No change to NRC Chairman, Deputy

Kaipara-based Northland Regional Councillor Mark Farnsworth has been unanimously re-elected for a third consecutive term as Council Chairman.

The Council’s eight members – including newcomers John Bain and Joe Carr – were formally sworn in today at a ceremony at the Council’s Whangarei headquarters.

Among the first items of business was the election of a Chair and Deputy; Cr Farnsworth back for his third three-year term as Chairman and Whangarei-based Cr Peter Jensen unanimously re-elected to his fifth term as Deputy.

The Chairman’s role currently carries a total remuneration package of $98,565, including use of a car.  The salaries of Cr Jensen (as Deputy Chair) and the Chairs of Council Committees have yet to be determined, although ordinary Councillors are currently paid an annual salary of $26,660 plus mileage.

Councillors will meet to discuss the structure and membership of the Council’s Committees at a workshop in Whangarei on Wednesday, 14 November.
