Friday cutoff for $500,000 fund applications
Would-be applicants have until Friday (subs: Fri 20 July) to apply for a share of a $500,000 Northland Regional Council fund designed to help protect and enhance the region’s natural environment.
Applications for the Council’s 2007 Environment Fund opened in May and as of noon today 44 applications had been received ahead of this week’s 5pm Friday deadline.
The fund has provided more than $1.5 million since 1996 to help people improve and protect Northland’s natural environment and last year more than 100 projects from lakeside planting to fencing wetlands.
The fund is open to individuals and voluntary groups for eligible projects on private land and those wanting to check if a project might qualify should contact Regional Council Land Management staff urgently on (0800) 002 004 and then fill in an application form as soon as possible.
Projects must be of long-term benefit to the local environment and show clear evidence of good resource management. However, projects designed to generate personal or commercial profit, required under a resource consent, or to simply beautify a site, are not eligible for funding.
