Ken Paterson, 55, was chosen from a field of more than 20 candidates to replace former NRC CEO Warren MacLennan, who left the Council in August for a role with the Rodney District Council.

For the past five years Mr Paterson has been CEO of Techscape, an infrastructure works and maintenance company with approximately 290 staff formed by the Waitakere City Council and the North Shore City Council.  Before that he was the Taupo-based Generations Manager for Contact Energy.

His appointment to lead the Council’s 120-plus staff is effective from Monday, 8 January 2007 and Mr Paterson says he is looking forward to his new role.

Regional Council Chairman Mark Farnsworth says Mr Paterson will bring a welcome “outside perspective” to the CEO’s role.

Meanwhile, he says he and his fellow Councillors are appreciative of staff efforts since Mr MacLennan’s departure.

“In particular, I’d like to acknowledge the work done by Council’s Monitoring Manager Tony Phipps in his role as Acting CEO.”
