Mr Phipps, 49, the Council’s long-time Monitoring Manager, will become Acting CEO in early August when Mr MacLennan leaves to take up a position as Director District Strategy and Planning at the Rodney District Council.

Regional Council Chairman Mark Farnsworth says Councillors confirmed Mr Phipps’ appointment at a special meeting in Whangarei yesterday. (subs: Weds 12 July)

“Tony has had considerable experience as a Manager and the Council is confident that this experience, together with the other skills he will bring to the Acting CEO position, will be invaluable as Council goes through this transition period.”

Mr Phipps has worked at the Council since its inception in 1989 and has been Monitoring Manager since 1993.

“The Council has just adopted its Long Term Council Community Plan, which sets a clear direction for Councillors and staff, so there’s plenty to get on with,” Mr Phipps says.

Meanwhile, Mr Farnsworth says a process to find a permanent replacement for Mr MacLennan is already underway, but could take a number of months to finalise.
