Two free workshops on native trees to improve farms

Northland landowners are being invited to two interactive workshops to showcase the planting, management and use of native trees to improve farms.

The Northland Regional Council and NZ Landcare Trust have organised the workshops in Whangarei on Monday, 11 April and Kaeo on Tuesday, 12 April.

The free workshops provide landowners with an opportunity to discuss the benefits of planting natives with researchers and practitioners. There will be presentations from researchers and farmers on planting and management of natives for various uses on farms.

The workshops are part of a Sustainable Farming Fund project sponsored by the Tane’s Tree Trust, a non-profit organisation made up of groups and individuals interested in native trees for production and conservation.

Tane’s Tree Trust operates in Northland and Waikato, with planning team representatives from AgResearch, Landcare Research, Forest Research, the Northland and Waikato Regional Councils and the NZ Landcare Trust. The project also receives funding support from the two Regional Councils and the Transpower Landcare Trust Grant Fund.

The workshops will be held on Monday, 11 April at Barge Park showgrounds in Whangarei and on Tuesday, 12 April at the Memorial Hall in Kaeo, from 9.30am to 3pm.

Registration for the workshops is essential and attendees should contact Nola Sooner at the Northland Regional Council on 0800 002 004 or email nolas@nrc.govt.nz
