Teacher workshops

Northland Regional Council hosts annual workshops for primary and secondary teachers based on different environmental themes.

These free workshops provide heaps of fun ideas for incorporating environmental education into teaching programmes.

How to find the NRC Teacher Workshop venue @ Opua

Map showing location of Northland Regional Council Opua office.Make your way to State Highway 11 (the main Kawakawa-Opua-Paihia link). Turn off this road into Franklin Road which runs down the steep hill to the Opua waterfront.

(This is the same road you use if you're wanting to get onto the Opua ferry).

Turn right at the bottom of that hill (not left towards the ferry). Drive south along the road for about 400 metres – passing Opua Marina and several buildings - until you come to a corrugated iron building almost directly in front of you. This building contains a number of businesses and the Northland Regional Council.

Cater Marine (boat chandlery) is the first business you will see on a green section of the building. (The outside of the building is painted in different blocks of colour, identifying the separate operations).

At that point veer slightly left towards the sea to travel 40-50 metres along a small waterfront lane between the building and the sea.

Photo of the NRC Opua office. The Northland Regional Council can be found at the building’s southernmost (end) office (red corrugated iron).

It’s right next to the boatyard where lots of yachts and launches are on dry land for maintenance.

Park just beyond that office, adjacent to the boatyard.

We’ll start the workshop programme there before boarding the 16-metre catamaran Pacific Hideaway for our Bay of Islands Harbour cruise.
