Enviroschools in Northland

The kaupapa of the Enviroschools Programme is about the well-being of the whole school, community and eco-system.  It’s about working out how to live so that our society and economy nourishes the natural systems that give us life.  Enviroschools gives  young people an opportunity to explore real life challenges and to apply their abundance of energy and ideas. Students and schools that are working towards sustainability play a significant role in creating sustainable communities by:

  • being role models of sustainable practices
  • enabling students to be teachers amongst their families and peers
  • creating future leaders who understand how to make informed decisions and take action.

The Enviroschools Programme in Northland

The Enviroschools programme is available to all schools in Northland. The North’s Enviroschools programme is funded by and operated through the Northland Regional Council, with support from The Enviroschools Foundation and the Department of Conservation.

In Northland, 58 schools are currently on the pathway towards creating sustainable communities.  They are all working at their own pace to achieve a range of sustainability actions, with some choosing to go for awards along the way.

The following schools receive support through facilitation, resources, professional development and a nationwide network of schools.
