1-3 March – Northland Agricultural Field Days

Enviroschools Community Garden and Project Possum

The Northland Agricultural Field Days, held in Dargaville each year, are the second largest field days in New Zealand.  This year, the Northland Regional Council exhibition will include an Enviroschools Project Possum display and a garden area featuring 6 – 8 edible garden planter boxes from Enviroschools.

8 March 2012 – Enviroschools in the Early Years Expo

Enviroschools Northland is piloting ‘Enviroschools in the Early Years’ with Comrie Park Kindergarten in Matarau.  A half day Expo will be held at the Kindy and the new entrance classes of nearby Matarau School will be invited to take part.

8-10 March, 26-28 July or 20-22 September in Raglan

This kit is not a translation of the English kit but an authentic Māori world view resource.

21-25 March 2012 - Te Aho Tu Roa – Kotuia!

Following on from 2011, this is the national event. It will bring together 200+ people to share their stories of kai through performance, to learn and be inspired to take action and highlight growing talents and skills.

Through Te Aho Tu Roa – Kotuia! students will explore stories from the past that help connect them to their place, specifically to significant sources of kai in their area - the gardens, forest, farm, sea or the supermarket!  Students will be given opportunities to cultivate community connections, feelings of belonging and pride of place.

May – Cluster Meetings for Primary and Intermediate Teachers

Teachers involved in the first cluster meeting.Cluster meetings will be held in the Kaitāia, Kaikohe and Whāngārei areas.  The content of the meetings is built around the needs of the participants which are held at a school location. Meetings are made up of professional development, teachers sharing ideas, experiences and resources, and a tour of the host school’s sustainability practices and programmes.  Take a camera!

May-June – Project Possum

First Cut - Project Possum 2011.Project Possum involves secondary students learning, practising and being assessed on skills and knowledge related to possum biology, trapping and fur and pelt recovery.  The programme offers level 2 and 3 NCEA credits. 

There is also the opportunity for schools and students to set up related small businesses.

14 August – Caretakers’ Workshop

Caretakers' workshop - getting students involved.Following on from a successful workshop in Kaitāia in 2011, this year’s ‘Caretakers’ Workshop’ will be held in Whāngārei.  Caretakers share problems and solutions to school property management, explore a wide range of sustainable practices, discover ways to involve students in their work and find ways to support their school’s environmental journey.

October-November – Enviroschools Expos – Gone Bush!

Students and teachers will take part in hands-on workshops and participate in interactive displays provided by community experts.  Many of the bush-based topics will be derived from the Enviroschools ‘Living Landscapes’ theme area.
