Outreach Tuna Tour
Updated 18 July, 2011
To raise awareness regarding the longfin eel’s biological and cultural significance in order to save it from extinction, Stephanie is working with groups in New Zealand and beyond to create a looooooooooong eel appliqué tapestry that will be displayed in public spaces throughout New Zealand starting in 2011.
Stephanie came back to NZ to travel around to schools and other groups with the project. Many of the people Stephanie worked with were then inspired and created their own 2 meter long section of eel body and other various watery lifeforms that volunteers have since added between the head and tail. The whole thing is starting to tour for display now at about 40 meters long, and GROWING!
See how your school, class, group, community and family can be involved in creating your own ‘Traveling Tuna Tapestry’ for display.
