Environmental Leaders Fund
The Northland Regional Council has funds available for schools to undertake environmental projects in their local area.
Funding will be provided for projects and initiatives that have positive environmental outcomes. Projects can be in the school grounds or out in the local community.
What is the Environmental Leaders Fund?
The Environmental Leaders Fund (ELF) aims to support Northland schools and students to increase their environmental knowledge, passion and practice. School projects or initiatives that are practical, hands-on, and have a positive impact on Northland's environment will be considered.
How do I apply for funding?
A link to the online application form will be emailed to all Northland schools, or you can access the form on our website. Applications open on 3 April and close at 5pm, 5 May 2017.
Do all applications receive funding?
As funding is restricted, we cannot guarantee all applications will be successful.
What kind of project is more likely to succeed?
There are a wide range of projects that have received funding in the past. Applications that relate to the regional council core business of biodiversity, biosecurity and water quality have a greater chance of success.
We found the following projects were less likely to be successful: recycling projects, murals/artwork and edible gardens.
Are the projects limited to 'within the school gates'?
No, you may apply for projects beyond your immediate premises; but the project must be undertaken in, and provide a clear benefit to, your local area.
How do I make an application?
Applications can be made online from Monday, 3 April 2017 to 5pm Friday, 5 May 2017.
Applications for any amount up to a maximum of $2,000 per project will be considered. You may apply for funding for more than one project, but each project must be submitted on a separate form.
What happens after I make an application?
Applicants will be advised of funding decisions by early June. Funding will be processed on receipt of an official invoice, which must be from the school awarded the funding.
We will contact you to follow up on how your project is progressing, and we do require a brief update from all successful projects by the end of the school year.
